It allowed for the general populous to obtain user-friendly personal computers for home use. IBM was the first to release the Personal Computer, if I remember correctly, but it was all text-based and DOS centralized making very difficult for the average person to use. Microsoft introduced the visual desktop that allowed users to open, run and opperate programs via interaction with a mouse, a system that is now the standard for all personal computers.

  1. Microsoft developed, some say ripped of Apple and Steve Jobs, GUI or Graphical User Interface….Windows. Which made manipulating the computer easy for non-nerds. DOS, or Disk Operating System, also developed by Microsoft was a precursor to Windows. Originally in computers there were no hard drives, everything operated in RAM and off of floppy disks.
