There’s a program called Audacity that is free. It does multi-track recording but only one track at a time. You can do mixing of pre-recorded tracks, and also ‘effects’ like noise reduction, etc.http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

http://www.google.com “Xp record audio” should get you a good listing of what is out there.
For recording http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ will get you a good recording, editing program.

I don’t know of any specific software but you might try looking at http://www.downloads.com or http://www.tucows.com for a start. I suspect whatever you find will be shareware rather than freeware but at least you might find a trial version of something that you can use.

you have one on your pc that comes with your MS Windows
to find it – click start – all programs – accessories – entertainment – sound recorder
if you want something with a bit more options -
try downloading goldwave – and if you do d/l this program – make sure you also d/l the LAME mp3 file (which is also available for d/l under Optional Downloads – at the goldwave site listed below)): http://www.goldwave.com/release.php
