I just saw on the Yahoo homepage that they made a new tv that was 3 credit cards thick at it’s thinnest point. Aren’t these tv’s and computers that are as thin as a cd capable of breaking very easily? I would never buy something that is that expensive and that thin.
My question is why are they making them like this?

Everyone is wrong.
TV makers do things for one reason, and one reason only, to sell TVs.
Thin is sexy, thinner is even sexier. As prices fall in the flat panel business, so go profit margins. So new things have to come out. OLED, super thin LED back lights, new super thin plasmas, new 240hz refresh for LCDs, and new plasmas with 480hz and 600hz panels are ways to give TVs the appearance of added value.
Yeah it might use less material, but these TVs cost more to produce no less. As for being stronger? I doubt that thinner TVs are stronger, if anything they are more fragile.
Thinner.. it’s the reason digital cameras have higher and higher megapixels with every model, they do it because people think more megapixels means better. It sells.

Weight is a big factor. A very thin TV would be very easy to mount on the wall, without a massive support. While the screen may be just a few millimeters thick, it would certainly be encapsulated in a much thicker frame, probably at least 3/4 inch.

because thin is better…it is in fact stronger than thicker models…believe it or not…its the way our world is moving..
it uses less materials..its stronger…its small and light…
just enjoy the technology!

Because it is a lot cheaper to make TVS that are very thin
