I’m looking for a pretty cheap digital camera, so probably a point&shoot of some sort. But I have a photography background in film, so I like to be able to set my own aperture, shutter speed and focus on occasion. Anyone know of any decent cheap cameras that let you do that without too much hassle and fiddling around in the menus? Thanks.

Ya know going back about 9 months ago Canon had a good Cheap camera with manual controls, ranging from $110 to $140-. The Canon A590 IS. Now discontinued.
Now to get one other than the Samsung L100 $89- Amazon.com (manual controls), very good image quality you have to spend quite a bit more. Such as Sony DSC-W300, or Nikon S710. Both these much cheaper than the super zoom Canon SX10 IS.
PS People say get the very expensive G series Canon. With that kind of money I’d be buying a basic Canon DSLR.
Are you willing to spend on line $460 +shipping or more for a camera that’s Not even a DSLR? High quality, yes– but still point and shoot is G Series.

Many of the Canon Powershot A series have manual shutter and aperture, plus a viewfinder. Look here—http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sidebysi…
The A590IS has not been discontinued yet, so if you could find that one, it would be a good deal for you. That camera has had excellent reviews.

I don’t know “cheap” compacts that do that. I mean the canon G10 does but that one hardly is cheap. Control seems to come with a price.
I do though hope you find something to your liking and price.
