People used to talk, play cards, play board games and they went to bed and got up earlier than most people do now. Computers make the biggest impact now. People spend more time talking to strangers on the computer than to their own family.

well when I was a kid I would listen to my Radio and chat on the Phone with My Friends.I do remember always having dinner with my parents every night at the dinner table.Me and my Friends would go for walks or go outside and play and as a teenager we would go to each others house and play board games and sit on the porch in the summer time and just chat about what we want to be when we grow up.The winter time we always had alot of snow so we would go sledding.I can remember only having channels 4,6,and 10 and 28 and 34,well when we could get them in since all we had was an antenna. It was a much simpler life when I was a kid in the mid 80’s I think that’s when we got our 1st microwave and satellite. We had a furnace but we also used a wood stove for heat and me and my Dad and Brother would help cut wood and stack it on the front porch.I miss my days as a child I had fun and it was much more simple.Kids these days have it all to good with so many things to do.I do remember I thought it was so cool when my Son got his 1st Nintendo 64,we played Mario together all the time.

Before computers we went out to the park and played some baseball, basketball, or go on the swingset. Played Tic Tac Toe with your family or friends. Chatted with your friends face to face, not walk down the street with your friend on one side and the cell phone to your ear talking to somebody else. You know this past Christmas day I happen to be sitting on the patio while two kids walked by carrying skate boards in one hand, each were talking on their cell phones. These days that friend that is visable to you, seems like there is no conversation with each other, due to the talking on the cell phone. Even while riding in the car with daughter and friend they were both on there cell talking to somebody else.
For watching TV, it was the big outdoor movie place where your whole family packs in the car to watch the movie outside. For news you read the news paper, listen to the Radio. There was lots of Chores to do!

Before radio and victrolas ( Early pre 50’s turntables ) people played musical instuments .Richer families had pianos . Less well to do families had guitars , banjos , and fiddles . Families and friends would gather and sing and play . Instead of downloading songs you would go to a Music Store where they would have piano players available to play Sheet music for you . If you liked the song you would buy the sheet music and take it home . It cost about 10 cents in the 40’s .
Sitting around and discussing the Bible was a popular pastime also .

Families sat around and listened to radio shows – years ago. They played board games or cards. They read aloud to each other. They visited with neighbors. They lived – they didn’t just exist like a lot do today.

Listen to the radio, they use to have great shows. Read books, magazines, newspapers, do crafts. Take walks. They were not as lazy as we are now, and they were smarter.

I do suspect some of us are about to find that out, the hard way. With the cost to the family over the decades, being distracted by the attention grabbers of the entertainment and other media. The price has been paid . Let the families recover now.
