I will be going to SC to see my wife graduate bootcamp. I have a Canon Digital Rebel XTi and need to get a lense that can shoot from a distance. I love photography but I’m new to it. Any lense recommendations. She will be a good distance away on the parade deck. Please keep the cost low in your recommendations. Thanks!

  1. The 55-250 IS is a good option.
For slightly less money, you can get the Sigma 70-300 DG APO. Make sure it is the APO, the version without that designation is no better than the cheap Canon.
And congratulate that Marine, from a former Marine.

  2. Your cheapest good option would be the EFs 55-250mm VR at about $250. Your other option would be the 70-300mm IS at about $560.
Canon does make a cheaper 70-300mm lens for about $175 but it is not the best quality.
