Although the intention may be honest, the suggestion to download a “home made” application is completely out of the question.
Several freeware items can do this, and they are in highly developed states: Roboform is one.
And the suggestion to write it on a piece of paper is hilarious.
The single best way to do this is have a dedicated ‘computer unit handbook’ (my term) which would have passwords, recovery disk, ISP info, and other unit specific items kept near the unit. That way if the computer is stolen, thieves won’t hit the jackpot like they would if you merely store passwords in a text file.
Write down a password BEFORE you enter it into the slot, then you’ll know exactly what it is & exaggerate the handwritten font, so there’s no mistaking it as a capital or small letter.

I’ll recommend you Password Safehttp://passwordsafe.sourceforge.net/
What are the guarantees of security:
One it’s open source, so you could potentially (it’s a hassle but possible) analyze the source to seek for any backdoor (I can assure you there is none) and build it yourself.
The software has originally been developed by Bruce Schneier, a renown security analyst, who has made sure this software will encrypt the passwords properly and not permit anyone without the correct password to open the file. It is easy to use, and autolock itself if being left unused for too long.
I use it to store my online banking passwords.

I made a program that keeps all of your passwords. I had a same problem so I just made it so I can forget all the stuff. If you want, I’ll email you the program and virus scan if you’re afraid of viruses.
–Edit–
My program I made is called My Password Keeping

If you don’t trust me, you don’t need to download.

Dont trust the first guy who answered, if you accept and run his software, he might be able to take control of your computer, just like netbus. “He said he made it”.
Just write it down on a peace of paper, and put it in a safeplace.
Or just write it in notepad, and hide it somewhere in c:/ drive.
