I have a Dell Demension 4400 desktop running XP. I have a Netgear wireless router. I have an Acer Extensa notebook running Vista Home Premier. What do I need to do to make these talk to each other? By that I mean share files.

  1. hook the wireless router into the desktop with a cable, your notebook will be wireless, hook your internet into your router. now they are all online.
To connect them, on both computers, right click on my computer, go to the Computer Name tab, give both computers a simple description, click change, give each computer a simple identifiable name, choose workgroup box, and use the same workgroup name, any name will due. restart both computers when asked to, and when you restart, they should be connected on a home network. You can access them by the right clicking on the desktop, choosing display properties, go to the Desktop tab, click customize desktop, then check the box for My Network Places.
