How To Make A Language Lab Interactive? Additional Computers Or A Server?

I teach ESL in a lab where the students have only monitors to look at. They usually watch videos and follow along with a text.
I want to make the Lab interactive, where they can do exercises or quizzes from the internet. There are over 40 students in 8 labs. Do I need to buy a computer for each student’s workplace?
Can a central server handle 40 keyboards and mice?
What is the most efficient way to do it. 40 more compters is expensive.
Thanks for your help.
Will.

  1. It is possible to use a centralized server with many “thin client” machines. It’s worth doing some research, but be sure to research the cost of buying regular computers for each station as well, because thin client solutions aren’t always cheaper than regular low-cost computers.
It will not be as simple as getting one powerful server that can handle 40 monitors, keyboards, and mice.
