Its best to log in using a password in case you get burgled!
Speed up your start time by stopping any programs loading on startup that you dont need. The easy way is to use Winpatrol.
Winpatrol is a handy utility that tracks cookies on your pc and stops unwanted changes to your startup folder.http://www.winpatrol.com

The welcome page just displays while your computer is loading programs - unfortunately we have to have more and more programs running all the time like anti-virus. Right click your tool bar and get task manager _ click performance - I just did that and I'm using 600K of memory - on a cheap laptop with only 250K of memory this would be crawling. I have 1 gig - the minimum now - if you want a good anti-virus, MSN, google desk top and stuff running. Software manufacturers don't care how much memory it takes any more either - programs used to have to fit on a floppy disk - at 1.44Mb now they fit them on a 700Mb CD and think they are doing well. I just got Roxio media creator and it's on 2 CDs and that a TSR - takes up memory all the time.

The Windows splash screen is just something to look at while the computer is running a lot of other programs. Therefore, your goal shouldn't be to remove the splash screen, but to reduce the number of necessary programs you're running at startup. This should make your computer perform faster after booting as well.
If you dare to try, you can use the System Configuration Manager to help you with this. Or get the help of a person who is better able to interpret what all the things mean.
