Delete any unused identities in Control Panel/Users. Be sure to leave Administrator, and Owner. Turn off the guest ID if it’s on. There isn’t a way to get rid of the Splash Screen unless you use a program that will change the OS itself to make it happen. Even if that happen’s, the startup time will be the same. Also, remember to change each unused startup programs to run only when you want them to, rather than when windows starts… This will also speed up the process.
By the way, don’t do what the idiot above me says! If you don’t know what you’re doing, you may disable your antivirus, or another program! DO NOT UNCHECK EVERYTHING!

The windows welcome page doesn’t take much time or resources to load.
The problem with slow booting is usually too many programs loading, so they will be ready… just in case you decide to use them. In my opinion, that is bad programming by the writers, but they want their program to popup whenever you click something that might be related. OHHH, look at how fast that is… it doesn’t matter to them that is slows down everything else you do.
In XP, click start>run
type in
msconfig
on the startup tab, uncheck the boxes for anything you don’t recognize. Click apply.
It will ask you to reboot.
After rebooting, if there is anything missing that you actually do want running (or the system won’t boot) you can recheck the items by going back to MSCONFIG (if it won’t boot, boot to safe mode by hitting the F8 key before wiondows starts to load, right after the POST Power On Self Test).

Go to start + run, type msconfig.
Then goto start up tab and deselect evrything then click ok.
Should speed up big time.

Click on start, then run then type in msconfig. Click on the start up tab and unclick all the programs except any that start with a cc (e.g) ccApp. Then restart your pc. normally when starting up your computer it runs through all these programs. By unclicking this stops those particular one from running at start up. You can always go back and re select any that you find you want to run at startup.

The Windows splash screen is just something to look at while the computer is running a lot of other programs. Therefore, your goal shouldn’t be to remove the splash screen, but to reduce the number of necessary programs you’re running at startup. This should make your computer perform faster after booting as well.
If you dare to try, you can use the System Configuration Manager to help you with this. Or get the help of a person who is better able to interpret what all the things mean.

The welcome page just displays while your computer is loading programs – unfortunately we have to have more and more programs running all the time like anti-virus. Right click your tool bar and get task manager _ click performance – I just did that and I’m using 600K of memory – on a cheap laptop with only 250K of memory this would be crawling. I have 1 gig – the minimum now – if you want a good anti-virus, MSN, google desk top and stuff running. Software manufacturers don’t care how much memory it takes any more either – programs used to have to fit on a floppy disk – at 1.44Mb now they fit them on a 700Mb CD and think they are doing well. I just got Roxio media creator and it’s on 2 CDs and that a TSR – takes up memory all the time.
