Yes you can, but just to let you know the connection on the second computer will be a little slower then the connection already is on the first computer.
Physical Connections:
-Phone line from wall to modem port in computer #1
-Ethernet crossover cable from computer #1 ethernet port to Computer #2 ethernet port
On the main computer open internet explorer. Click on tools–>Internet options and select the connections tab. Click on the setup button and answer the wizards questions turning on ICS (Internet Connection Sharing)
On computer #2 you will need to run the same wizard and select the option that says connects to the internet through another computer.
You will also need to setup the IP addresses manually on each computers ethernet card so they can talk to each other.

you could hardwire them to each other or you could hook up a wireless network through a router in your house. dial up will still be slow.

In control panels find the network connections. Set the properties of your Dial-up. In the advanced tab, Switch on Internet Connection Sharing on your dial-up machine.
Then use the New Connection Wizard and the other machine should find the connection.

Click..Start.>..Help and then when Help opens type in “Internet connection sharing” and follow instructions. It’s simple and does work.Just as an aside…why use dial -up? I thought that everybody these days used broadband

Get a router, usually that is the best way.

You need to connect both computers with that crossover cable. Then configure ICS(Internet conection sharing) on both computers, with one as the host(the one with the modem). It works ok.

Router do not work with Dial-Up. You will only be able to use one at a time. Its not like dsl, or cable. Not even a hub or 2 way will work. You will just have to switch the plug.
