I have two computers, and they are both in the same roomed, not wireless, and hooked up to the internet through a Linksys router. I want them to be able to share folders- at least a few folders, like music and pictures. How do I do this? I tried going through the Network Setup Wizard, but it didn’t make much sense to me, and nothing seemed to work. Is there a more simple way? They are both running on Windows XP, and both are updated, newer computers.

Use the Networking wizard to set up a home network (the main thing is that you turn file/print sharing ON )
after that, right click My Computer, and select Properties…
in the my computer properties menu, look for the ‘Computer Name’ tab, and click Change to rename your computer. Do this for both computers, and place the same workgroup name in both. Also make sure each computer has a unique computer name. then apply and restart.
once the computer boots, go to ‘My Network Places’ and check to see if you can see the other computer on the network (and if so, then simply use this to view the computer as if it was a drive on the same computer)…
if you dont see this computer, use the naming convention to view the other computer,….
do this by opening up the internet , and typing… \(your other computers name here)
and you should be able to view the computer….
hope this helps

make sure both are part of the same workgroup (the wizard would have done this), then right click the folder>properties>sharing then allow the folder to be shared, and viola! it will show up in my network places under the workgroup as a shared folder. u can then map the folder as a drive, so the shared folder will be like another hard drive for storage. this is a bit more complex, although it doesnt require much setup
