I need some free software to extract the text from a jpg. Regretably my OCR software that came with my scanner will only take text from an actual scan – there is no option to pull it from a jpg file. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Why not open the image in your graphics editor and save it as a file your OCR software can understand?
if you’re using Microsoft Office Document Imaging then I think the only file format it can read is TIF. Even MSPaint can save files in that format.

You seem to be looking for an encryption program. They do exist but there is normally no text in a .jpg file.
