  1. Simple
    start, control panel, network
or if you have the two little computers on the taskbar, click on them.
We need to set the ip address for the computers.
on the first one do this
right-click on the local area connection
    select properties
    select TCP/IP from the list
    click properties
select the option to use this ip address
    IP 192.168.0.1
    MASK 255.255.255.0
Hit ok and close the other windows….
That’s it, next follow the steps above and change the IP on the other PC. the steps are the same, but change the IP to
192.168.0.2, but leave the mask the same
test the connection by ensuring that the cross-over cable is connected and then
    start, run
    cmd
ping 192.168.0.1 (from the second computer….)
    You should have 4 replies
if not, check the settings and confirm that you have a connection again…. you can check the cable ends to see if the colors or the inner wires are different, if not then you have a standard cat 5 cable and you will need a router or hub for this to work.
then you can copy your songs
    start, run \192.168.0.1c$My DocumentsMy Music
enter in the username and password for the other computer
you will see the directory of songs if they are in the default location, and ensure that you enter in your username in

Or you can change the path anywhre after teh C$ to find the files….

  2. Everything L. E. said about changing your IP address… PLUS you have to configure your internet options for file and printer sharing if its not already turned on. (in the same place you changed the IP..) Control Panel> Network Connections > right click on Local Area Connection 1 (or whatever one is activated and working and corresponds to your card) and chose properties. (don’t use the command line to transfer files, you’ll just get confused)
In the list of check boxes “Microsoft Network File and Printer Sharing needs to be checked if its not” (When you’Re not sharing files over a LAN this should be UNCHECKED for security reasons)
Next step. Right click on the “My computer” Icon and choose properties. Click on the “Computer Name” tab… and then find the button on the bottom that will let you change your computer’s name and domain/workgroup.
Choose the “workgroup” radio button and on both computers, make sure the name of the work group is the same.
If you changed the name of the work group, you will need to log-off of windows (or restart) and log back in…
Both of your computers should now show up under “Network Places” on each other’s computers…
Find the folder you want to share and right click it, go to “Sharing and Security”. The directions and explaination on that dialogue box should be self explainatory. When a folder is shared, it should show up also in “network places” when you double click on your friend’s computer.
    I hope that helps!

  3. Do you mean they do not have network cards?
If they do have network cards, you can plug the crossover cable directly into them.
    Then: http://www.drbillbailey.net/share.html
Or, you could pull the hard drive from the source computer, set the jumper for slave (if it needs it), connect it to the target computer, and then you have two hard drives in one computer. Copy files will be significantly faster.
Then return the slave back to the original computer.
That assumes the source drive can be plugged into the target computer…
