I already have a router and the internet access connections hard wire throughout my house , but in one room my kids installed a second computer. How can I split the connection in the room so that both of the computers have internet access? I already tried another router and it does not help. Please help.

  1. Another router is bad! You will need a hub or switch, In the networking world we hate hubs because how they work, but you something like this it would work fine. So you just plug the cable in from the router into the switch/hub, then the 2 cables from both computers into it.
    Here a picture of a hubhttp://www.youthtech.com/techstuff/netwo…
    and a switchhttp://i.expansys.com/i/b/b114241.jpg
I recommend a hub. It will be cheaper.

  2. Don’t use another router. You need a 5 PORT NETWORK SWITCH (or more). Most any switch you buy today is auto-sensing, so it doesnt matter where you plug the cables, so here is the scenario…. The working cable coming into the room (cable from working router) will plug into a port on the switch… Then from the switch, you will take a CAT5 cable and run it to the 1st computer, then run a seperate CAT5 cable from the same switch to the 2nd computer.
A switch is a much more simple device that works behind a router (basically a spliter if you already have a router)…. If you use a 2nd router to share, then you have a crazy setup you need to configure.. Also a NETWORK SWITCH is only about $25+ , where a router is $40+

  3. A switch would be best. Disconnect the first computer in your kids room from the router, connect the switch to the router, and connect both of the kids computers to the switch. This should work.
